Northwest goes 1-1 against GAC opponents
TOPEKA,
Kan. –The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team finished the first day of the
Washburn Lady Blues Classic with a win and a loss against two Great American
Conference teams.
Southern
Nazarene (8-10) came back to win its game against the Bearcats in five sets,
3-2. The Bearcats bounced back in their second game to beat Southwestern
Oklahoma (5-12), giving the Bearcats an overall record of 10-7.
Dallas
Gardner led the team in kills and assists in the win against Southwestern
Oklahoma. Gardner finished with 11 kills and 24 assists in the win. She also had
27 assists in the first game against South Nazarene.
Southern
Nazarene gained momentum after winning the third set from being down 2-0.
Nazarene came back in the fourth set and started the set with a 6-1 run.
Northwest failed to salvage the win in next two sets.
Abby
Graves led the Northwest offense with 19 kills and the Northwest defense with 16
digs in the game against Southern Nazerene.
Tori
Beckman made an impression on the defensive side in both games with 12 digs
against Southern Nazarene and a team leading 17 digs against Southwestern
Oklahoma.
The
Bearcats play East Central and Harding University Saturday in the last day of
the Washburn Lady Blues Fall Classic.
