Bearcats look to stay perfect in the MIAA
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s volleyball team puts its 3-0 conference record on the line against Fort Hays State Wednesday.
The Bearcats come into this week sharing the top spot in the MIAA with nationally ranked Nebraska-Kearny (10-0, 3-0) who continues to hold the top spot in the AVCA Top 25.
Northwest as a team has performed very well. They rank third in hitting percentage and kills and are atop the MIAA in serving aces.
Sophomore Brooke Bartosh ranks second in the conference in kills averaging 4.6 per set. Kirsten Hudgens, who is also a sophomore, ranks second in the MIAA in serving aces averaging .60 per set.
Senior Tori Beckman is number two in the conference in digs with 215. Beckman is averaging over six digs per set, in MIAA play, during her final season.
“We have got to keep doing the little things,” Head Coach Amy Phelps said. “We can only worry about what we can control. That’s an emphasis we work on every week during practice and the girls must continue to work hard.”
As for the match this week coach Phelps added “I’m excited. Fort Hays is a good team and they get better every year. It will be a good test for us.”
The match will take place in Bearcat Arena 7 p.m. Wednesday. Following the match, fans are encouraged to stay and “Meet the Bearcats”. The team will be introduced and then be available for autographs and photos; don’t miss your chance to meet the 2012 Bearcat Volleyball team.
