Northwest picks off rival Griffons, 3-1
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Sophomore Brooke Bartosh finished with a career high 21 kills as the Northwest Missouri State volleyball team knocked of Missouri Western 3-1 Tuesday night at MWSU Fieldhouse.
Northwest improved to 5-4 on the year and 1-0 in the MIAA as the Griffons fall to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. The win was the first win at MWSU Fieldhouse for Northwest since a 3-1 victory in 2008.
After a rough first set the Bearcats rebounded to take a 16-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 win over Missouri Western. As a team Northwest hit .226 to take the MIAA opener.
Falling in the first set, Northwest would catch fire hitting over .300 in the second set and .270 in the fourth set.
Bartosh’s 21 kills accompanied an even .400 hitting percentage which is third best in her short career for the green and white. She added four blocks on the defensive end as well as the Bearcats finished with seven blocks as a team.
Freshman Dallas Gardner was also outstanding finishing with 31 assists and a .312 hitting percentage from her setter position.
Tori Beckman was one dig shy of a career high as she tallied 30 digs in the win.
Northwest opens home action Friday against one of the newest MIAA foes, Lindenwood. Tipoff from Bearcat Arena is set for 7 p.m.
