Bearcats host Jennies in annual Pink Out
2011 MIAA Bearcat Volleyball l Follow the Bearcats LIVE
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team returns to action Wednesday night when they host the No. 7 Central Missouri Jennies.
Northwest (8-10, 2-3 MIAA) matches up against the No. 8 Central Missouri Jennies (16-3, 6-0 MIAA) at 7 p.m. at Bearcat Arena for the Bearcats' Annual Pink Out. The Bearcats are coming off of a thrilling 3-2 victory over Truman State last Friday night.
In Northwest's 3-2 win over Truman State the Bearcats bounced back from being down 2-1 to come back and take the final two sets to secure the victory. In the match, senior setter Laira Akin recorded a season high 56 assists and 12 digs to close out her ninth double-double of the season and third consecutive. Freshman Abby Graves continued to knock down kills with a team high 17 and earned her fourth double-double of the season adding a season high 16 digs.
Amy Majors led an impressive offensive attack by the Bearcats, hitting .419 and adding a season high 16 kills.
The No. 7 Jennies are currently leading the MIAA with a perfect 6-0 record and are in the midst of an 11-game winning streak. Last time out Central Missouri routed Nebraska-Omaha in three-sets with seniors Allie Huffman and Paula Harris leading the Jennies attack with 11 kills apiece, while Kelsey Ortwerth narrowly missed out on a double-double with 9 kills and 13 digs. Along with Ortwerth's 13 digs, Taylor Krejci reached double figures with 10 digs. Setter Julia Bates finished with 38 assists, and is averaging 11.7 assists per set during the Jennies' 11-game winning streak.
Up Next: The Bearcats will enjoy the weekend off before continuing MIAA play Wednesday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Pittsburg State.
