Bearcats announce annual Pink Out
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball program will join hundreds of teams across the country during the month of October in participating in The Side-Out Foundation's "Dig Pink" program in support of breast cancer awareness and research Wednesday, Oct. 12, against Central Missouri.
In what has become an annual tradition on campuses across the nation, the Bearcats host their "pink out" match against MIAA-rival Central Missouri at 7 p.m. at Bearcat Arena. The Bearcats will continue to partner with St. Francis Hospital to help in efforts to support breast cancer awareness in the Maryville community.
In last year's "pink out" match, the Bearcats knocked off Washburn in front of nearly 600 fans in a thrilling five set match. This year, the Bearcats are encouraging fans to wear pink and pack the arena to help Northwest when they take on the 8th-ranked Jennies.
Thousands of high schools and colleges host "Dig Pink" nights across the country in conjunction with the Side-Out Foundation to raise awareness and resources for breast cancer research. The Northwest cheerleaders will have "pink out" shirts available for purchase next week by contacting head coach Jason Sack at email@example.com; shirts will also be available at Wednesday night's match. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society to aid continued efforts in breast cancer research.
The term "side-out" refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. It is hoped that this Side-Out Foundation initiative will do the same for breast cancer patients, providing them with the support, education and best available treatments to regain control of their lives.
