2011 MIAA Bearcat Volleyball l Follow the Bearcats LIVE
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team returns to action Tuesday night when they travel to conference rival Missouri Western.
Northwest (7-9, 3-2 MIAA) matches up against the Missouri Western Griffons (8-7, 1-3 MIAA) at 7 p.m. at M.O. Looney Field House in St. Joseph. The Bearcats are coming off of a 3-1 showing at the Pitt State Regional Challenge.
In Northwest's last match of the Pitt State Regional Challenge a trio of Bearcats finished with double figure kills, and Kelsey Larson led all players with 20 kills. Abby Graves and Brooke Bartosh joined in as well finishing with 15 and 16 kills respectively. Bartosh and Larson also led the Bearcat offense with 10 and 11 kills in the match. Senior setter Laira Akin tallied 34 assists pacing the offense as Larson benefited hitting a hot .611 in the win.
Tori Beckman paced the defense 16 digs while Bartosh continued to be solid in the middle adding seven blocks. Amy Majors was also solid in both games as the middle blocker added eight blocks.
Missouri Western is coming off of a 3-1 showing at the 2011 Holiday Inn Express & Suites Classic. Senior outside hitter Tahler Johnston was named to the All-Tournament team after she accumulated sixty-eight kills in four matches at the Classic for the Griffons.
All-time Northwest is 26-62 when facing the Griffons and are 12-25 when playing them in St. Joseph. Last season the Bearcats split with the Griffons beating them 3-0 in their last meeting of the season at Bearcat Arena.
Up Next: The Bearcats continue MIAA play when they host Truman State University Friday night at Bearcat Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
