Bearcats Receive AVCA Academic Honor
LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the second season in a row head coach Jessica Rinehart and the Bearcat volleyball team have been recognized by the AVCA posting a team GPA of 3.35 to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The Bearcats were one of 57 Division II programs to earn the team award which was the highest total since the award was first given following the 1992-93 season. Northwest received the award for the second consecutive season coming off the program's first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm really proud of what the girls have accomplished," Rinehart said. "This really shows a team effort from last year's success on and off the court."
Rinehart's squad fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Washburn after earning the school's first ever at-large bid. The Bearcats finished the season 15-15 overall and 11-9 in the MIAA and posted a 7-3 record at home inside Bearcat Arena.
Northwest opens the 2011 season on September 2, at the Nebraska-Omaha Showcase where they will match up with a pair of schools from South Dakota and Minnesota during the two-day tournament.
