Bearcats Dominate Southwest Baptist
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team turned in a dominating performance Saturday night inside Bearcat Arena as Northwest swept Southwest Baptist 25-14, 25-10 and 25-14. The Bearcats didn't trail by a single point the entire match.
Northwest pushed its record to 13-11 overall and a season-best 9-6 in the MIAA with its win on Saturday. The win is the Bearcats' third straight over the "purple" Bearcats and Northwest has won 15 of the last 16 meetings with Baptist.
Sara Falcone and Alex Hanna led Northwest with 13 kills each in the match. Hanna peppered the ball all night hitting a career-high .765 in the win. Hanna also added six digs and a team-best two service aces. Falcone was no slouch either, hitting .500 and added seven digs, and a solo and block assist.
Iesha Haskins also hit .500 in the sweep while adding six kills. Amber Guthrie chipped in with five kills of her own and an ace.
Paige Spangenberg led the Bearcats with 26 digs in the match. Spangenberg is now tied with Central Missouri's Audrey Jensen for third-place on the MIAA's career digs list.
Tori Beckman and Rachel Nisi each added eight digs in the match for Northwest who hit a season-high .315 as a team. It is also the first time this season the Bearcats have hit the .300 mark in attack percentage.
The Bearcat defense also set a season-high as they forced a season-low hitting percentage as a team as Southwest Baptist hit -.037 for the match and committed 21 attack errors. Baptist falls to 9-18 on the year and 4-11 in the MIAA. Northwest had just three blocks in the win but recorded four aces as Baptist didn't have any.
Next up for the Bearcats will be a "home" match against Nebraska-Omaha on Nov. 3 in Red Oak, Iowa. Red Oak is the hometown of Bearcat head coach Jessica Rinehart, as well as Hanna and Spangenberg. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
