Bearcats Drop Non-Conference Tilt to Rockhurst
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday night in Kansas City as the Bearcats were swept by Rockhurst. Set scores were 18-25, 23-25 and 12-25.
Alex Hanna led the Bearcats (11-11) with 10 kills in the loss and had two block assists. Amber Ryan had seven kills to go along with two blocks. Sara Falcone and Amber Guthrie each chipped in with four kills, while Falcone also added a solo block, three blocking assists and nine digs.
Laira Akin led Northwest with 24 assists. Akin also had three kills and the Bearcats' lone service ace. The one ace ties a season-low for Northwest. Paige Spangenberg continued her strong play of late, leading the back row with 20 digs.
Rockhurst's (20-7) Maggie McGovern led the Hawks with 15 kills. While Emily Levy added 10 kills and had five total blocks.
Northwest had 19 attack errors in the loss while hitting .137, Rockhurst hit .250 and also out-blocked the Bearcats 8-to-6.5.
Northwest will return to MIAA action this Homecoming weekend as the Bearcats host Pittsburg State on Friday night at 7 p.m. and will host Southwest Baptist on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. inside Bearcat Arena. Northwest defeated both Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist earlier this season in September.
