Northwest Sweeps Fort Hays State
HAYS, Kan.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team turned in a sweep over Fort Hays State Friday night in Hays, Kan., to win their third-straight match. Set scores went 25-19, 26-24 and 25-16. It is the Bearcats' ninth consecutive victory over the Tigers and improves Northwest to 4-0 all-time in Hays.
Northwest (11-9, 7-5 MIAA) controlled sets one and three but had to score three straight points to earn the victory in set two. The Bearcats hit .271 as a team, which is the second-highest output of the season. Fort Hays (7-16, 0-11 MIAA) hit .153.
Sara Falcone led the Bearcats with 15 kills and tied a season-high with a .480 attack percentage. Falcone also tied with Laira Akin to lead the team with six total blocks. Alex Hanna had 11 kills in the win and recorded five digs, two total blocks and a team-high four service aces. Whitney Mason chipped in with six kills.
Akin recorded 35 assists to go along with six digs, two kills and an ace. Rachel Nisi had Northwest's other two assists in the match. Paige Spangenberg led the back row with 14 digs, while Tori Beckman added 12 of her own.
The Bearcats had a season-low 13 attack errors in the sweep. Fort Hays committed 18 attacking errors. Northwest also out-blocked the Tigers 12-6 in the match.
Up next for the Bearcats is their second ranked opponent of the week in No. 12 Emporia State. Northwest will face the Hornets tomorrow night in Emporia, Kan., in a 7 p.m. match.
