Bearcats Sweep to Third Straight Victory
OMAHA, Neb.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team won its third consecutive game Tuesday night as the Bearcats swept Nebraska-Omaha 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20. The win is Northwest's first over the Mavericks since 2007. The match also marks just the second time Northwest has won in Omaha and the first since 1980.
Sara Falcone led the Bearcat attack with a team-high 11 kills in the match. Falcone had a double-double for the third straight match and fifth of the season by collecting 10 digs. Falcone also added an ace, an assist and four total blocks in the victory.
Laira Akin continued her very strong play as of late collecting her third double-double in three matches. Akin led the Bearcats with 31 assists and added 13 digs and two blocks. Alex Hanna and Amber Ryan chipped in with eight and five kills, respectively. Ryan also added three total blocks.
The Northwest back row played extremely well as Paige Spangenberg led the team with 16 digs, while Tori Beckman had 15 digs of her own. Rachel Nisi added eight digs, two kills and an assist for the Bearcats who hit .181 overall as a team.
Nebraska-Omaha hit just .067 in the match and also committed 23 attack errors while Northwest had 14. Northwest also out-blocked the Mavericks 12 to eight in the match, Nebraska-Omaha also committed nine service errors.
Northwest (8-6, 4-2 MIAA) will look to make it four in a row Friday evening as the Bearcats host eighth-ranked Central Missouri at 7 p.m. from Bearcat Arena.
