Northwest Wins Battle of Bearcats
BOLIVAR, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team moved its record to above .500 for the first time this season, improving its record to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA with its three sets to one victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
Set scores went 25-17, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-20. Setter Laira Akin led Northwest with 40 of the Bearcats' 42 assists in the win. Akin also had an ace, four digs, two solo blocks and five block assists for Northwest.
Sara Falcone led the Bearcat attack with 12 kills. Falcone also recorded her second straight double-double and fourth of the season by adding 15 digs. Falcone also added three block assists, and along with Amber Guthrie led the team with four service aces. Alex Hanna added 10 kills of her own against the "purple" Bearcats.
Paige Spangenberg led the back row with 19 digs in the match, while Tori Beckman recorded a season-high 15 digs. Rachel Nisi chipped in with nine digs and also had an ace.
Northwest out-hit SBU .155 to .090 as well as committed three fewer attacking errors. The Bearcats also had the second-most team blocks of the season with 12 overall.
The Bearcats will be off all next week and will return to action on October 5th when they travel to face Nebraska-Omaha at 7 p.m.
