Northwest Falls at Home to No. 13 Emporia State
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Bearcat volleyball team dropped a decision to 13th-ranked Emporia State on Saturday afternoon inside Bearcat Arena. Northwest Missouri State fell in straight sets, 20-25, 20-25 and 24-26 against the Hornets.
Laira Akin had a great game for Northwest accounting for 43 of the Bearcats' 44 assists in the match. Akin set-up a balanced Northwest attack and also added five digs and a block assist. Sara Falcone had a team-high 12 kills, while also adding five digs, a solo block and two block assists. Iesha Haskins recorded a season-high 11 kills in the loss.
Amber Ryan chipped in with seven kills while Alex Hanna and Whitney Mason each had six kills apiece. Mason also added two total blocks and an assist. Paige Spangenberg led Northwest with 16 digs while Andrea Potter was second with eight.
All-American Ting Liu led the Hornets with 42 assists in the match, Liu also had 10 digs. Emporia State hit .362 overall in the match while the Bearcats hit .224 and also had 18 attack errors to Emporia's 10.
Next up for Northwest (5-6, 1-2 MIAA) will be a trip to Pittsburg State on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Southwest Baptist on Saturday at 2 p.m.
