Bearcats Roll in Rinehart's Home Debut
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team rolled in head coach Jessica Rinehart's home debut as the Bearcats made quick work of Fort Hays State sweeping the Tigers 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22.
Alex Hanna led a balanced Northwest attack with 10 kills. Sara Falcone had nine kills and also added four service aces, as Northwest had seven aces as a team in the win. Amber Ryan added eight kills and also had a solo block and three block assists.
Laira Akin collected her first double-double of the season, leading Northwest with 32 assists and also added 11 digs to go along with two kills. Whitney Mason added seven kills for the Bearcats and recorded a .545 attack percentage. Paige Spangenberg led the Northwest back row with 16 digs.
As a team the Bearcats hit .226 in the match while holding Fort Hays State to a 0.83 clip. The Bearcats also recorded eight team blocks compared to the Tigers' three and out-killed Fort Hays 41 to 27. Northwest also had two fewer attack errors in the sweep.
Next up for Northwest (5-5, 1-1 MIAA) will be 13th-ranked Emporia State as the Hornets come to Bearcat Arena on Saturday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
