Bearcats Drop MIAA Opener to No. 3 Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State dropped its conference opener Tuesday night as the Bearcats were swept by third-ranked Washburn 12-25, 17-25 and 13-25.
The Bearcats were led by Alex Hanna's seven kills. Hanna also had three digs and Northwest's lone service ace. Setter Laira Akin had 21 of Northwest's 22 assists in the loss. Akin also had four digs and two total blocks.
Paige Spangenberg led the back row with 10 digs against the Lady Blues who moved to 9-0 overall on the season. Sara Falcone added four kills of her own and had four total blocks. Washburn hit .446 in the match while the Bearcats hit .140. The Bearcats had 14 attack errors in the match while Washburn had eight.
Northwest (4-5, 0-1 MIAA) will play its first home matches of the season this weekend as the Bearcats host Fort Hays State Friday night at 7 p.m. and will host 13th-ranked Emporia State at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Bearcat Arena.
