Bearcats Hold Scrimmage
The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team held a scrimmage Sunday afternoon inside Bearcat Arena. Bearcat players' families were invited to attend the scrimmage that included three sets played to 25. The black squad was the winner in two of the sets. Laira Akin, Leah Bostwick, Sara Falcone, Minka Foster, Amber Guthrie, Iesha Haskins, Amy Majors and Alicia Watson were on the black squad. While the white team consisted of Brit Bahr, Tori Beckman, Alex Hanna, Kelsey Larson, Whitney Mason, Paige McKenzie, Andrea Potter and Amber Ryan. Rachel Nisi and Paige Spangenberg did not play due to injury.
"I thought that things went well today considering we've only been practicing for a week," said Head Coach Jessica Rinehart. "It was great to see the girls out on the court in game situations because it helps me know further what we need to work on."
After the scrimmage ended everyone enjoyed a potluck dinner behind the bleachers in Bearcat Arena.
"It's neat to get everyone in the same room together and get everyone fired up about the 2010 season," said Rinehart. "Parents are a big part of our program and it's exciting to have them in our gym today and get a chance to relax with them.
"I know it's good for the girls after a hard week of practice to get a chance to see their parents and get a chance to hang out with them."
The Northwest volleyball team begins its 2010 season on September 3-4 at the Nebraska-Omaha Tournament where the Bearcats will play Adams State, Midwestern State, Newman and Minnesota-Duluth.
