Northwest Hosts Conference Leader Friday Night
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team will look to get back on the winning track Friday night inside Bearcat Arena. The task will not be easy as sixth-ranked, and conference leader Central Missouri comes into Maryville for a 7 p.m. match.
The Bearcats are coming off a three-set loss to Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday night. Ashley Mitchell led Northwest with six kills and also added five total blocks in the match. Outside hitters Alex Hanna and Kelsey Larson also had six kills in the loss. Laira Akin led the team with 23 assists in the match and finished with 11 digs.
Junior libero Paige Spangenberg is currently 65 digs away from tying the all-time program career digs record. Spangenberg needs to average 16.25 digs per match the rest of the season to break the record. Right now, Spangenberg is averaging 19.13.
Spangenberg won't be the only premiere libero on the court on Friday night. Central Missouri's Rachel Fister leads the MIAA with 5.36 digs per set, while Spangenberg is second with 5.14.
Northwest middle hitter Sara Falcone leads the team, and is tenth in the league with a hitting percentage of .302. Meanwhile, Central's Allie Huffman is fourth in the MIAA with 319 kills.
