Northwest Travels to 20th-Ranked Nebraska-Omaha
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Bearcat volleyball team will travel to Omaha, Neb., this evening for a 7 p.m. match with No. 20 Nebraska-Omaha.
Northwest Missouri State was defeated by UNO in the two's first meeting back on Oct. 7 in Maryville. Freshman Kelsey Larson led Northwest in the 0-3 loss with nine kills. Setter Laira Akin had 28 assists.
This time, the Bearcats are coming off of a five-set victory last Saturday over Southwest Baptist. Middle hitters Sara Falcone and Amber Ryan led the team with 15 kills. Falcone also recorded 14 digs and six block assists. Since that first loss to Nebraska-Omaha Falcone has recorded four double-doubles in nine matches.
Junior libero Paige Spangenberg needs 81 more digs to set the school's all-time career digs record. During her last five matches Spangenberg has averaged 5.84 digs per set.
The key match-up of the night will feature UNO's Ellen Thommes who is currently second in the MIAA with a .418 hitting percentage, and Northwest's Falcone and Ryan who are currently eighth and 10th respectively in the MIAA averaging .88 and .84 blocks per set.
The match tonight will make this the ninth consecutive week this season that the Bearcats will face a ranked opponent.
