Bearcats Fall to Another Ranked Foe in No. 24 Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan. -The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped a match to another ranked opponent on Friday night as the Bearcats were defeated by No. 24 Pittsburg State, 13-25, 19-25 and 20-25.

Laira Akin led the team with 25 of the Bearcats' 26 assists. Middle hitter Sara Falcone led the attacking with eight kills. Falcone hit .316 in the match and also added nine digs, five block assists and an ace. Ashley Mitchell added seven kills, and Amber Ryan had four kills to go along with two total blocks.

Paige Spangenberg led the back row with 17 digs. Akin chipped in with seven digs. Northwest hit .134 in the match and had one fewer attacking error than Pittsburg State. The Bearcats also out-blocked the Gorillas seven to one.

Northwest (12-18, 3-11 MIAA) will travel to Bolivar, Mo., Saturday afternoon to face Southwest Baptist. Northwest lost the first battle between the Bearcats this season, 1-3 back on Sept. 26 in Maryville.
