Bearcats Hit the Road this Weekend
MARYVILLE, Mo. -The Bearcat volleyball team will end its six-day hiatus from action on Friday night as Northwest Missouri State travels to Pittsburg, Kan., to face No. 24 Pittsburg State.
Northwest last played on Oct. 24 against then No. 7 Emporia State. The Bearcats were beaten in three sets at home. Northwest was led in the match by Amber Ryan's 11 kills and Paige Spangenberg's 17 digs. The evening before, the Bearcats defeated Fort Hays State 3-1. Ashley Mitchell recorded a career-high 15 kills in the victory. Alex Hanna was second with 12 kills, and freshman Kelsey Larson added 11.
The Bearcats last faced Pittsburg State back on Sept. 25 and were defeated in three. Mitchell led the team with 12 kills in the match, while Sara Falcone added nine. Laira Akin had 33 assists to go along with 11 digs and three blocks in the loss. The following night, Northwest was defeated by Southwest Baptist, 1-3. Ryan and Falcone led the Bearcats with 12 and 11 kills respectively. While Ryan also had two solo and five block assists, Falcone chipped in with five blocks of her own and 10 digs.
Northwest will once again be playing Southwest Baptist the day after the Pittsburg State match. The Bearcats will travel to Bolivar, Mo., on Saturday afternoon to face the Purple Bearcats at 2 p.m.
Northwest (12-17, 3-10) does not return home to play a match in Bearcat Arena until Nov. 6th against Central Missouri.
