Bearcats Downed by No. 7 Emporia State
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team was swept Saturday evening in Bearcat Arena by No. 7 Emporia State. Northwest fell by scores of 14-25, 17-25 and 23-25.
Sara Falcone was two kills shy of her second double-double in as many days. Falcone had eight kills and 12 digs in the match while hitting .330. Amber Ryan led the team with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .440, while Ashley Mitchell chipped in with six kills and Northwest's only block.
Laira Akin led the Bearcats with 28 assists, Akin also added a kill and seven digs. Paige Spangenberg led the team with 17 digs and Andrea Potter chipped in with 10 of her own. Kelsey Larson, Falcone and Potter each had an assist for the Bearcats in the loss.
Emporia State out-hit the Bearcats .252 to .104 and also had six less attacking errors. All-American Ting Liu led the Hornets with 36 assists, while fellow All-American Arica Shepard led the team with 12 kills.
Northwest (12-17, 3-10 MIAA) will be off until next Friday, Oct. 30 when they travel to Pittsburg State, in a match to start at 7 p.m.
