Mitchell Records Career-High in Victory Over Fort Hays State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Inside Bearcat Arena, and in front of newly inaugurated President Dr. John Jasinski, who performed the ceremonial "first serve," the Northwest Missouri State volleyball team picked up their third conference victory of the season in a win over Fort Hays State. Scores went, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22 and 25-19.
Ashley Mitchell recorded a career-high 15 kills in the victory. Mitchell also added three total blocks and three assists. Laira Akin distributed the ball nicely all night, accounting for 46 assists in the match. Akin also added nine digs and three service aces. Alex Hanna had 12 kills for the Bearcats, while Kelsey Larson added 11 and Sara Falcone recorded another double-double this evening with 10 kills and 12 digs, to go along with a solo and an assisted block. Amber Ryan had seven kills and added three total blocks.
Libero Paige Spangenberg led the squad with 21 digs. While Andrea Potter chipped in with six of her own. Fort Hays out-hit Northwest .209 to .199 in the match, but in the fourth and decisive set, the Bearcats hit .355, and held Fort Hays to just a .053 hitting percentage in the set before.
Northwest (12-16, 3-9 MIAA) will host seventh-ranked Emporia State Saturday night inside Bearcat Arena. Match start time is set for 7 p.m.
