Bearcats Fall to No. 9 Washburn in Four-Sets
TOPEKA, Kan. -The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team traveled to Topeka, Kan., on Tuesday night to face No. 9 Washburn in an MIAA contest. The Bearcats would come up short in the end, losing three sets to one, 16-25, 25-22, 15-25 and 19-25.
Laira Akin led the Bearcats with 36 assists in the match. Akin also had five digs, a block and three kills. Akin set-up Ashley Mitchell for her team-high 11 kills in the match. Mitchell hit .345 in the loss and also recorded three blocks. Alex Hanna added 10 kills, while Amber Ryan had eight kills and hit .438.
Kelsey Larson had three kills and also led the squad with two aces in the match. Paige Spangenberg led the team with 20 digs, Spangenberg also had an ace. Andrea Potter chipped in with 10 digs.
Northwest hit .152 in the match to Washburn's .320, Washburn also had one more attacking error than the Bearcats.
Northwest (11-16, 2-9 MIAA) will host Fort Hays State at 7 p.m. on Friday night inside Bearcat Arena. The Bearcats won the first meeting between the two teams, 3-2 back on Sept. 18.
