Bearcats Travel to Face No. 9 Washburn
MARYVILLE, Mo. -The Bearcat volleyball team, fresh off their five-set victory on Saturday over Missouri Southern heads to Topeka, Kan., tonight to face the No. 9 team in the land, Washburn.
Northwest Missouri State hosted Washburn back on Sept. 16, losing in straight sets. In that match, Ashley Mitchell led Northwest with 12 kills, while setter Laira Akin recorded 30 assists.
Sara Falcone leads the Bearcats' offensive attack into the match Tuesday night. Falcone has had a double-double in two of the last three matches, including a career-high 18 digs on Oct. 14 against Missouri Western. Falcone leads the team in the month of October with 87 kills while hitting .329, with 29 blocks in the nine matches this month.
The key match-up for tonight will be Northwest's ability to slow the Washburn offensive attack. Northwest has been solid around the net all season, out-blocking opponents 200.5 to 140.5. The Bearcats come into tonight's contest third in the MIAA with 2.06 blocks per set. Junior Amber Ryan leads the Bearcats in that category, and is tied for fourth in the MIAA with a .93 per set average. While Washburn is second in the league in both hitting percentage and kills.
Mollie Lacy leads the Lady Blues' offense this season with 270 kills, while Kate Hampson is currently fourth in the league with 10.95 assists per set this season.
Northwest (11-15, 2-8 MIAA) will also host Fort Hays State on Friday night and Emporia State on Saturday night this weekend.
