Bearcats Face No. 20 Truman, Missouri Southern This Weekend
MARYVILLE, Mo. -The Northwest Missouri State volleyball squad has a pair of matches this weekend in the MIAA. Tonight they will travel to Kirksville, Mo., to face No. 20 Truman at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Bearcats will host Missouri Southern at 5 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
Northwest is coming off of a five-set loss to Missouri Western at home on Wednesday evening. Setter Laira Akin tied a career high in both assists and digs in the match. Akin compiled 50 assists to go along with 15 digs, two kills and three block assists. Middle hitter Sara Falcone had her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and a season high 18 digs.
The Bearcats split their two matches with Missouri Southern last season, as both teams won at home. On Sept. 23 of last year Amber Ryan led the Bearcats with 16 kills and hit .517 in Northwest's sweep over the Lions. Alex Hanna added 10 kills, while Paige Spangenberg led the team with 15 digs. Northwest was swept by Truman in both of their matches last year.
Truman will be the eighth top-25 team the Bearcats will face this year, and fourth in the last five matches. Truman is led by middle hitter Megan Sharpe who has 273 kills on the season. Missouri Southern comes into the match led by Jeanna Feldmann who has 289 kills, and setter Elin Skei who is sixth in the conference averaging 10.52 assists per set.
