Bearcats Set to Face Western Tonight in "Pink Out"
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Bearcat volleyball team will host Missouri Western tonight inside Bearcat Arena at 7 p.m. The match this evening is the third annual "pink out" match to promote breast cancer awareness. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to tonight's match.
Newly promoted interim head coach, Allison Rogers, who was the assistant coach, will be at the helm for her first career match tonight against the Griffons. Rogers takes over the Northwest Missouri State program after the resignation of Anna Tool on Tuesday.
The Bearcats are coming off of three-straight matches against ranked opponents in the last two weeks. In those three matches the Northwest offense has been very balanced. Sara Falcone has 19 kills and 21 digs, while Ashley Mitchell has 19 kills with eight total blocks and Amber Ryan also totaled 19 kills with two solo and nine block assists in the three matches. Setter Laira Akin has 79 of the team's 89 assists in the three matches.
Missouri Western (7-14, 0-8 MIAA) comes into tonight's meeting led by Kelli Sicner who has 252 kills on the season. Northwest (10-13, 1-6 MIAA) is looking for its first conference victory at home this season.
