Bearcats Fall in Three to No. 15 UNO
Maryville, Mo. -Nebraska-Omaha had nine service aces and held Northwest Missouri State to a .086 hitting percentage as the Bearcat volleyball team fell in three sets, 25-27, 19-25 and 19-25.
Freshman Kelsey Larson led the Northwest attack with nine kills in the match. Alex Hanna and Ashley Mitchell each had seven apiece. While Mitchell had three block assists as well. As a team the Bearcats collected 24 attacking errors to UNO's 16. Paige Spangenberg led the Bearcats with 19 digs and added two aces. Amber Ryan led Northwest with a solo block and four blocking assists, while also adding 10 digs. Setter Laira Akin led the Bearcats with 28 assists. She also chipped in with three kills on four attempts, and an ace.
Northwest was out-blocked in the match for the first time in a match since Sept. 11 against St. Joseph's. The Mavericks out-blocked Northwest 10 to eight.
Ellen Thommes led UNO with 11 kills while Emily Myers had 34 assists.
Northwest (10-12, 1-5 MIAA) will travel to Warensburg, Mo., on Friday to face the fourth ranked Central Missouri Jennies in a match set for 7 p.m.
