Pushing Through the Pain
Laira Akin, Sophomore, S/OH, Volleyball
Hello again Bearcat Fans!
Well this week has been very interesting for me personally, and also for our team. We had a good match against Pitt. We really fired up at times and fought very hard near the end. As far as SBU goes…well let's just say my mom taught me if I didn't have anything nice to say then I shouldn't say anything at all. It's just frustrating to lose to a team…any team. It doesn't matter who it is, I don't like to lose! But enough about the negatives. We're all about moving on and making the next point, set, or match even better. And that's what we're going to do this coming weekend.
As far as the week aside from volleyball, it's not exactly pretty so just a warning. I have a herniated disc in my lower back and to help me get through the rest of the season I went in to the hospital to get a minor procedure done. I went in with my teammate, Minka, and my mom came up as well. First I got an epidural to help numb my back. Then, I got a Cortisone put directly into my disc, which as I was told wasn't too fun to watch. But all in all not horrible and in two weeks I'll get to do it all again!
But now we're off to a tournament at Washburn, where we're going to get to play some really good competition and get to shake off the two losses from this weekend. I can't wait to get back out on the court and compete again because for me that's what it's all about, beating the person across the net from me. And I know we're all ready to get that started.
Well it's back to studying for now,
