Northwest Bearcats

Press Release

Sept. 24, 2009

Long Road Trip

Laira Akin, Sophomore, S/OH, Volleyball

Hello Bearcat fans!
Since the last time I updated you we've secured our first conference win against Fort Hays State Friday. It was a great battle and match. We made some great adjustments mid-match which enabled us to come away with the win. That night we headed to Salina, Kan., which was on the way to Emporia, where we played Saturday. We got up and drove the rest of the way that morning and then got to Emporia ready to take on another opponent.

We didn't necessarily have the same result at the end of the Emporia game but we still played really well. We had the same fight and drive to win and did end up taking a game off the #3 team in the country! Another great thing that came from that match was that after I took a spill on the court, Mo, the other setter on our team, really stepped up and came in and helped lead our team to another great game. Although it didn't end up with a win in our column it was a great match and we all walked away with our heads held high.

So our next challenges are Pitt and Southwest Baptist. We've been preparing this week for these two matches and I feel like we are at a place where we can take on any team in the conference. We're ready to compete and ready to win.

Until next time,

Laira #3
