Bearcats Lose to No. 3 Emporia State, 1-3
Emporia, Kan. -The Northwest Missouri State volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 decision to defending MIAA champion, No. 3 Emporia State Saturday afternoon in Emporia, Kan. The Hornets took the first set 25-18, but the Bearcats responded with a 26-24 win in the second. Emporia State would come out strong in the final two sets however to win 25-15 and 25-18.
Junior Sara Falcone led the Bearcats with a season-high 18 kills in the match and hitting .361. Amber Ryan chipped in with seven kills while Alex Hanna and Ashley Mitchell each added six. Ryan and Mitchell also added five and four block assists respectively.
Laira Akin recorded 33 assists in the match while also adding eight digs and three kills. Paige Spangenberg once again led the Bearcats with 11 digs in the match. Monica Roof chipped in with four assists.
All-American Ting Liu had 54 assists and five kills for the Hornets, while fellow All-American Arica Shepard had 21 kills in the victory.
ESU out-hit Northwest .262 to .182 while also adding five service aces to Northwest's one.
The Bearcats (8-7, 1-2 MIAA) host their next two matches in Bearcat Arena. Northwest will play-host to Pittsburg State on Friday and Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
