Bearcats Open MIAA Play Against No. 6 Washburn

Maryville, Mo. -The Bearcat volleyball team (7-5) opens MIAA play tomorrow evening at home in Bearcat Arena. Northwest Missouri State will be facing No. 6 Washburn at 7 p.m.

The Lady Blues are 12-0 this season and were picked to finish second in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll, just behind defending champion Emporia State.

The Bearcats are coming off of a 1-3 weekend at the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament in Kenosha, Wis. Junior Sara Falcone led the Bearcats in the tournament with 39 kills, while setter Laira Akin had a career-high 47 assists in the loss to St. Joseph's College.

The MIAA road will not be any easier for Northwest, as there are currently six MIAA teams in the latest AVCA coaches' top-25 poll.

The last time the Bearcats defeated Washburn was on Oct. 17, 2006. Ashley Mitchell recorded three kills and a solo block in the 3-1 victory in Bearcat Arena. Current Bearcat assistant Allison Rogers had 13 kills and added one solo block and three block assists.

Northwest will also travel to Fort Hays State and No. 3 Emporia State this weekend.
