Bearcats Drop Two on Final Day in Wisconsin
Kenosha, Wis. -The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team dropped a pair of games today in the second day of play at the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament. The Bearcats were swept 21-25, 16-25 and 20-25 by host-Wisconsin-Parkside in their first match of the day.
Ashley Mitchell led the Bearcat offensive attack with 12 kills. Mitchell also led the team with three block assists. Sara Falcone was second with 10 kills. Sophomore setter Laira Akin led Northwest with 31 assists in the three-set match. Amber Ryan led Northwest with nine digs, while Paige Spangenberg added 6. This is the first time since Sept. 5 of last year that Spangenberg did not lead the Bearcats in digs in a match.
Wisconsin-Parkside hit .337 as a team while holding the Bearcats to only a .184 hitting percentage.
Northwest would finish off the day and the tournament with a 3-0 loss to No.13 Indianapolis. The Bearcats went down 13-25, 20-25 and 16-25.
Mitchell once again led Northwest with seven kills. Falcone and Ryan chipped in with six and five kills respectively. Akin once again led Northwest in assists with all 23 of the Bearcat assists. Spangenberg led Northwest with 22 digs in the match.
Falcone led the Bearcats during the tournament with 39 kills. Akin recorded 134 assists during the four-game tournament.
Northwest (7-5) opens up conference play on Wednesday at home against No. 6 Washburn at 7 p.m.
