Bearcats Sweep on Day 2
Maryville, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team won a pair of matches today in the second day of the Comfort INNvitational hosted by Northwest at Bearcat Arena.
Northwest swept Texas A&M-Commerce in their first match winning 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23. Alex Hanna led the Bearcats with 15 kills, Amber Ryan had 10 and hit .333, Kelsey Larson and Ashley Mitchell added nine and eight kills respectively as the Bearcats hit .227 as a team.
Laira Akin led Northwest with 36 assists. Paige Spangenberg led three Bearcats with double-digit digs with 16. While Sara Falcone had a solo block and four block assists for the Bearcat defense.
In their second match of the day the Bearcats were led by a career-high 14 kills from Larson, as they defeated Quincy 19-25, 25-24, 25-13 and 25-19. Larson also added four block assists for Northwest in the win. Hanna chipped in with nine kills.
Spangenberg led the Bearcats in receiving with 20 digs. Akin had 38 of the 41 assists for Northwest. Ryan and Falcone added six and five block assists respectively for the Bearcats.
The Bearcat defense held Quincy to a -.067 hitting percentage in the match, and forced 34 attack errors. Northwest also out-blocked the Hawks 11.5 to 6 in the match.
Northwest moves to 6-2 on the season and will travel next weekend to Kenosha, Wisc to participate in the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament. The Bearcats will play Quincy and St. Joseph's on Friday and Wisconsin-Parkside and Indianapolis on Saturday.
