Homework, Memphis and Home Opener

-Laira Akin, Sophomore, S/OH, Volleyball

Hello Bearcat Fans! I'm glad you are reading this either again or for the first time. I hope you take some time and read Paige's blog as well!

Well this installment might be a little shorter because I am writing this between doing Statistics and American Government homework! Oh the life of a student-athlete is always exciting.

But anyways, enough about me and my pity party. This past weekend went extremely well. I was pleasantly surprised by how well we all played together. All our hard work in the preseason really paid off.

The trip there, however, didn't go quite so smoothly! Our trip to Memphis took a couple hours longer than expected due to construction and some detours. It wasn't too bad because we were traveling on the very nice (and new) coach bus provided by the school so it was fairly comfortable to sleep in (which is what most of us did during the trip). I'm sure you'd all love to hear about all the fun stories we told on the bus, but I don't have any to share because I slept for probably 98% of the trip :). What can I say I like to sleep.

The first day went quite well starting with a nice breakfast at Perkins (gotta love waffles). After that we headed over to the gym. We didn't quite know how long it was going to take since it's hard to maneuver a large bus through downtown and through a college campus. Our bus started to double as an Athletic Training room with our trainer, Nick, walking up and down the isle while we were driving (kids don't try this at home, he's a trained professional).

The volleyball is pretty self-explanatory because we won a majority of our matches, which is what we came to do. I am very excited about our upcoming matches since they are at home. I'm very happy that my family will finally be able to see me in my Bearcat uniform! I hope you'll all be there Friday and Saturday to cheer us on :)

Until next time,

Cheers - Laira #3
