Tool Signs Two in Early Signing Period

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State head volleyball coach Anna Tool has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period: middle hitter Amy Majors of St. Joseph, Mo., and outside hitter Kelsey Larson of Fargo, N.D. Both will enroll at Northwest for the fall 2009 trimester.

"I am looking forward to training both Kelsey and Amy," said Tool. "They have the potential to push for court time as freshmen and add quality depth to the outside and middle positions. They both work extremely hard and have very competitive personalities."

Majors is a three-time MVP at Central High School and was the St. Joseph News-Press Player of the Year in 2007. She was a first-team all-conference and all-city selection and second-team all-region and all-district player. Majors led the Indians in kills and blocks this season. She advanced to the Junior Olympics in 2008 with the club squad Team KC.

"Amy puts up a big block and plays with a strong presence on the court," said Tool. "She has a great demeanor on the floor and expects a lot of herself. Amy will add depth and size to our middle blocking position and has the potential to push for time right away. Amy also has an aggressive attack and can run routes from pin to pin - she's a very versatile hitter."

Larson holds the career kills record at Fargo North High School at 917 going into tonight's Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament quarterfinal. She was the EDC Most Valuable Offensive Player as a junior in 2007 and also holds the program single-match kills record (26). She is a 12-time state qualifier in track and field between seven different events and was the runner-up in the long jump.

"Kelsey is a very dynamic and explosive player with a huge jump," said Tool. "She plays very high and her overall athleticism will help take her game to new levels. Kelsey's work ethic and personality will also help her shine as a Bearcat."

Northwest wraps up its 2008 season at No. 9 Truman Friday.
