Spangenberg Breaks Season Digs Record in Loss to Central Missouri
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Paige Spangenberg led all players with 26 digs to push her season total to 621 and break the program record in a 3-1 loss to No. 14 Central Missouri tonight at the UCM Multipurpose Building. Northwest (9-22, 6-12) won the first set 25-21 before falling to the Jennies (26-9, 13-5) in the next three sets 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17.
Northwest never trailed by more than two points in the first set and scored four of the final six points to win the first set 25-21. Sara Falcone had five kills and a match-high three blocks in the first set to lead all players with seven points.
The Jennies answered back by taking the final three sets.
Spangenberg broke Jill Quast's 1997 record of 618 and moved into eighth in all-time career records tonight.
Falcone led Northwest with 14 kills, hit. 379, made nine blocks and a match-high six blocks to tally 17.5 points. Alex Hanna made 10 kills to extend her streak of 10 or more kills to six matches. Rachel Nisi reached double-digit kills for the seventh time this season with 10 and added five digs.
Katie Swenson picked up her 12th double-double of the season with 43 assists and 11 digs.
Up Next: Northwest closes out the home schedule against rival Missouri Western Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The Bearcats won the first meeting 3-1 Oct. 15.
