Bearcats Travel Down Highway 71 to Face Lions

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State volleyball (8-18, 5-8) continues a busy week and returns to conference play with a trip down Highway 71 to face Missouri Sothern (6-18, 1-11) tonight at 7 p.m. in Young Gymnasium. The Bearcats swept the first meeting of the season Sept. 23 in Maryville.

Missouri Southern is on a nine-match losing streak since to Oct. 4, the longest active streak among MIAA teams. Sophomore Jeanna Feldman leads the Lions with 2.56 kills per set and is second on the team with 2.31 digs per set.

Amber Ryan hit .517 with 16 kills in the first match with the Lions this season and is hitting .393 in two career matches against Missouri Southern. Sara Falcone carries a career .405 hitting percentage against the Lions in her two career matches.

It will be the first conference match in Young Gymnasium for all the Bearcats except Amy Bohnker, who last played Missouri Southern at Joplin in 2006. In that match, Bohnker had nine kills and four blocks as the Bearcats won the first set 30-23, but later fell in four to the No. 25 Lions.

Paige Spangenberg will continue her climb up the Northwest season dig records tonight after making 28 digs against Rockhurst last night. Spangenberg stands seventh in program records with 502 digs this season and needs eight to move into sixth and 10 to move into the top five. She currently leads the MIAA and is third among Division II sophomores (16th overall) with 5.21 digs per set through Oct. 26.
