Match Notes (.pdf) | Career Stats vs. Emporia State

MARYVILLE, Mo. - After the season's first five-set victory at Fort Hays State Friday night, Northwest Missouri State volleyball (8-16, 5-7) backtracks through the state of Kansas to face No. 9 Emporia State (25-2, 11-1) at White Auditorium tonight. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

The Hornets won the first meeting the between the two this season in a 3-1 match Sept. 20 at Bearcat Arena. Rachel Nisi led Northwest with 10 kills, as she's hit 10 or more kills in all three of her career matches against Emporia State. Three Hornets had double-doubles in that match.

Emporia State has won the last seven matches of the overall series, but their last loss to the Bearcats came in five sets at Emporia, Kan., on Sept. 15, 2004. In that match, assistant coach Allison Rogers had 12 kills, hit .281 and made three blocks.

Northwest will be facing the top team in the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings and its seventh nationally-ranked squad. The Bearcats have only managed to take a set from the nationally-ranked teams this season, which came against Emporia State earlier this season.

The Hornets have won 22 of their last 23 matches, with the lone loss in that stretch coming in a 3-0 sweep against Washburn Oct. 17. Emporia State has won its last 12 home matches dating back to last season.

Paige Spangenberg is looking to build on her record-breaking weekend after making 46 digs last night at Fort Hays State to break the previous record of 37 (Becky Brown - Sept. 22, 1993) and improve her season average to 5.20 digs per set. Against the Hornets during her career, she averages 6.25 digs.

The performance also moved Spangenberg into ninth of season dig records, as she enters tonight with 458 digs this season. She needs 10 to move into eighth and 29 to move into seventh. Spangenberg finished her freshman season with 593 which is second all-time.

Live stats for tonight's contest will be available through the MIAA Scoreboard on NorthwestBearcats.com. There will be no video webcast.
