Bearcats Start 748-Mile Road Trip at Fort Hays State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - After a 91-mile round trip last week to Missouri Western, the Northwest Missouri State volleyball team (7-16, 4-7) begins a 748-mile road trip Oct. 24 to Fort Hays State (9-15, 2-9), for a 7 p.m. match at Gross Goliseum. Northwest won a 3-1 match earlier this season against the Tigers in Bearcat Arena.
It's the second trip to Hays, Kan., in program history. Northwest won a 3-1 match at Gross Coliseum Oct. 6, 2007, as part of the former MIAA divisional play. With the elimination of divisions, Friday's match will be the second part of the new home-and-away format.
Northwest is looking to end its two-match losing skid by handing Fort Hays State its fifth straight loss in MIAA play. The Bearcats have won four straight against the Tigers and have a 4-3-1 advantage in the overall series.
Friday will be a matchup of two of the MIAA's top three liberos. Paige Spangenberg is second in the conference with 4.96 digs per set, while Fort Hays State's Katelyn Lapham sits one spot behind with 4.91 digs per set.
Sara Falcone continues to lead the Northwest offense in the month of October with a .236 hitting percentage. She's also leading the Bearcat blocking, averaging 1.00 blocks per set in six matches this month.
The Bearcat defense will have their hands full with the Tigers' junior newcomer Lilian Rezende. Rezende is second in the MIAA with 3.59 kills per set, but with nearly 850 attacks, she's not their most efficient hitter. Leanna Roberts leads the Tigers with a .270 hitting percentage.
Live stats for Friday's match can be found through NorthwestBearcats.com. Their will be no live video feed.
