Northwest Faces No. 7 Washburn Tonight In Annual "Pink Out"
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State (7-15, 4-6) begins the second half of the MIAA schedule tonight with No. 7 Washburn (23-2, 8-2) as the Bearcats are spiking out breast cancer with the annual "Pink Out". All fans are asked to wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and help set a new volleyball attendance record.
Paige Spangenberg will be looking to set records of her own tonight. She needs 15 digs to become the 12th Bearcat in program history with 1,000 career digs and 15 digs to break the sophomore season digs record. She's on pace to break her own season record with 4.90 digs per set this season and is averaging 6.39 digs per set during the month of October.
The month of October has also been good to Sara Falcone, as she leads the Bearcats with a .236 hitting percentage in five matches this month. She's had 34 kills and 18 blocks, including a season-best six against Missouri Western Oct. 15.
Rachel Nisi is averaging 3.45 kills per set against Washburn in her three career matches, including 11 earlier this season at Lee Arena. Nisi has recorded 10 or more kills seven times and three double-doubles this season.
The Lady Blues are on a nine-match winning streak, including a 3-0 victory against Emporia State to hand the Hornets their first loss in 20 matches. Ashley Shephard, Monica Miesner and Mollie Lacy each have more than 200 kills this season. Washburn is ranked fifth in the first South Central Regional Ranking released Oct. 15.
