Northwest Welcomes Third Ranked Opponent to Bearcat Arena
MARYVILLE, Mo. - A homecoming matchup will feature the third ranked team to visit Bearcat Arena as Northwest Missouri State welcomes No. 12 Truman for a 7 p.m. contest Oct. 17. It will be the halfway point of the MIAA schedule.
In head coach Anna Tool's first two seasons, a ranked opponent has gone down inside Bearcat Arena. While Northwest hasn't played the spoiler role yet in 2008, the fact that the Truman match is Oct. 17 provides some history, because the last time Northwest played on Oct. 17, No. 15 Washburn went down 3-1 at Bearcat Arena.
Sara Falcone did well against the Bulldogs last season with a .327 hitting percentage, and is carrying a strong four-match hitting streak to Friday's match. Falcone has started the last three matches and is leading the Bearcats with a .254 hitting percentage since Oct. 2.
Paige Spangenberg is lighting up the Northwest dig records, improving her career average by 0.12 digs per set during the month of October to 4.77. With her current average, she's set to break the current school record of 3.69, finish second in MIAA records and 13th in Division II records. She's averaged 4.81 this season and is on pace to break her own program record of 4.74 set in 2007.
Truman is ranked third in the first NCAA South Central Regional rankings and one of five MIAA teams in the top eight. The Bulldogs' Melissa Keck needs 15 kills to record her 1,000th career kill.
Fans will have a chance to gain Bearcat volleyball autographs as the players will hold an autograph session at the scoring table following the match.
