Defensive Effort Comes Up Short Against Nebraska-Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. - Northwest made six team blocks and 52 digs but struggled to make the plays on offense in dropping a 3-0 match to Nebraska-Omaha tonight from Sapp Fieldhouse. Scores went 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18.
Alex Hanna had five of her nine kills in the first set, including back-to-back kills during a four-point Bearcat swing that brought Northwest within two points at 21-19. Andrea Potter saw her first action in 10 matches and recorded 12 assists in the first set.
The Northwest specialists used a strong third set to counter the start-to-finish win by the Mavericks in the second set. Katie Swenson recorded eight of her 14 assists and Paige Spangenberg made nine of her 20 digs in the final set as the Bearcats held off four match points before a 25-18 loss.
Spangenberg led all players with 20 assists, a season-best in three-set matches. Amber Ryan posted a strong defensive night with 11 digs and tied the match-high of three blocks with Sara Falcone. Rachel Nisi hit .308 on six kills and 13 attempts and reached the .300 mark for the third time this season.
