VERMILLION, S.D. - Northwest Missouri State held a 2-1 lead against South Dakota, but the Coyotes used a rally to tie the match at 2-2 and hit .500 in the fifth set to claim the 3-2 comeback victory in the DakotaDome tonight. Scores went 25-16, 18-15, 24-26, 25-23, 15-2.

Alex Hanna hit three straight kills in the second set to provide a 15-10 Bearcat lead. A six-point swing sparked by a Hanna kill opened a 20-12 lead and it held to a 25-18 victory in set two to even that match at 1-1. Hanna hit .429 in the second set off five kills to lead all players.

Kills from Amber Ryan and Rachel Nisi were part of a 5-1 rally in the third set to put the Bearcats ahead 11-7. Each team exchanged a pair of rallies through the set, and South Dakota stayed within striking distance until tying the set at 23-23. After the two teams tied again at 24-24, Ryan put an attack down for a kill and Katie Swenson and Sara Falcone blocked a Laura Slaughter attack for a 26-24 set victory to build a 2-1 match lead for the Bearcats.

Northwest and South Dakota tied the fourth set 10 times and exchanged the lead seven times before the Coyotes took a 23-19 lead off an 8-1 rally. The Bearcats closed the gap to one at 24-23, but couldn't regain the lead as the Coyotes forced a fifth set with 25-23.

South Dakota scored the first 11 points in the fifth set off the serving of Amber Kobus and held the lead for a 15-2 victory to take the match 3-2. It's the second straight time in the series the two teams have played to five sets.

Ryan recorded her second career double-double in as many matches with 12 kills and 11 digs. Swenson moved from seventh to fifth in career assists with 45 tonight, increasing her career total to 2,187. Paige Spangenberg led three Bearcats with double-digit kills with 26 and Falcone tied for the match-high with a season-best five blocks.
