Bearcats Host Missouri Southern Tonight at 7 p.m.
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State volleyball closes out a brief homestand tonight when the Bearcats (4-10, 1-2) host Missouri Southern (4-7, 0-2) at 7 p.m. The Lions went 0-2 in the opening week of MIAA play against Nebraska-Omaha and then-No. 17 Central Missouri.
Northwest has won four of the last five matches against Missouri Southern when playing at home, and is 8-4 against the Lions all-time when playing in Bearcat Arena. The last match between the two teams featured five Bearcats with double-digit kills in a 3-1 Northwest victory.
Amy Bohnker has the chance to move up two spots in career block assists records within a two-match span. She surpassed Lindsey Remmers to move into sixth in all-time records with four against No. 14 Emporia State. With 235 career block assists, she's four away from tying Susie Thomas for fifth.
The Bearcats are 4-2 when matches go four sets, with the only two losses coming from teams mentioned in the latest AVCA poll: Emporia State (12th) and Michigan Tech (receiving votes). Missouri Southern is 1-3 in four-set matches this season.
Paige Spangenberg continues on a school-record pace with 4.54 digs per set in her career. She's averaging nearly a dig per set better than the previous record of 3.69 set by MIAA MVP Jill Quast from 1997-2000. She's hit double-digit digs in the past eight matches, reaching a season-best 24 in the last match against No. 14 Emporia State.
Jeanna Feldman leads Missouri Southern with 117 kills, the only Lion with more than 100 kills. Amelia Judge leads the Lions with a .342 hitting percentage, good for fifth in the MIAA.
