Bearcats Claim 3-1 Win Against Minnesota-Crookston
OMAHA, Neb. - Iesha Haskins used a career-high 14 kills to help led Northwest to a 3-1 victory against Minnesota-Crookston to wrap up the first day of the Comfort Inn & Suites and Firewater Grille Tournament at Nebraska-Omaha. The Bearcats won 27-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-22.
The Golden Eagles (0-2) scored six straight points to take a 24-23 lead in the first set. Facing set point, Minnesota-Crookson committed a service error and Rachel Nisi used a kill to put the Bearcats up 25-24. A block by Nisi and Amy Bohnker secured the first set for Northwest at 27-25.
Minnesota-Crookston used another six-point rally midway through the third set to take a 20-16 lead before Northwest scored nine of the final 12 points for a 25-23 victory. The Bearcats survived eight ties in the fourth set for a 25-22 win, claiming their first match win of 2008.
Haskins surpassed her previous career-high of nine kills against Newman last season to tie for the match lead. Amber Ryan hit a career-best .524 with 12 kills off 21 attempts and Nisi recorded her second straight double-double with 11 kills and a team-high 23 digs.
Northwest (1-1) continues its opening weekend tomorrow against Minnesota State-Moorhead at 2 p.m.
