Bearcats Fall in Four in Season Opener
OMAHA, Neb. - Rachel Nisi started where she left off in 2007, recording double-digit kills for the 13th time in the last 15 matches, but it wouldn't be enough as Northwest Missouri State fell 3-1 to Michigan Tech at the Comfort Inn & Suites and Firewater Grille Tournament at Nebraska-Omaha. Scores were close at 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22.
The Bearcats (0-1) used an 8-2 run in the second set to take a 20-16 lead, helped from a pair of kills from both Nisi and Amy Bohnker. The Huskies brought the set to within two at 22-20, but two attack errors and a kill from Alex Hanna brought Northwest to a 25-22 victory in the second set.
Nisi ended the match with 14 kills, hitting 10 in the first two sets. Along with 16 digs, Nisi notched her 12th career double-double.
Amber Ryan and Bohnker both hit above .300 (.316 and .389, respectively). Katie Swenson led the Bearcats with 19 digs, one away from her career best.
Northwest closes out the day with Minnesota-Crookston (0-1) tonight at 7 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles lost to Nebraska-Omaha in three sets earlier today.
