Allison Hyland

Northwest Missouri State assistant volleyball coach Allison Hyland begins her first year back in the Bearcat program after spending 2002 and 2004-06 as an outside hitter for Northwest. She is currently engaged to Ben Rogers, a conservationist with the state of Missouri.

Hyland was a senior during Head Coach Anna Tool's first Northwest season in 2006. Since graduating from Northwest in the spring of 2007, Hyland spent 2007-08 as the head volleyball coach at Craig High School while also serving as an elementary and secondary school counselor.

What do you do during your spare time (between coaching and wedding planning)?
I really like to hang out and relax with my fiancé and our dog - my new family.

What's your fondest memory as a player at Northwest?
Probably beating Washburn my senior year. Even though we only beat them one time, it was still a huge win and it was exciting.

What brought you back to Northwest?
The love of the game. It's true what they say, 'Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat'. I think for everyone who plays in college sports, it's a big deal to coach where you played.

What was the biggest adjustment to your new role as an assistant coach?
It's the perspective - from seeing things from a coaching side. It's completely different. It's a different look and a different knowledge of the game.

What do you anticipate for the upcoming season?
To help coach Tool carry on what she brought my senior year and build on that.

Since you grew up in Omaha, Neb., will it be special for your first matches as a coach to be in your hometown?
Definitely. The parents get to come watch and I think that's a big deal for them. They get to get back into the swing of things. I think it's definitely a good place to start.

What's your most unique characteristic or talent?
Probably singing. I like to sing. I might not be very good at it, but I was in high school and church choirs. I still go back and sing in church. That's always fun.

Where's the best place you've traveled?
Probably Daytona Beach, Fla., - that's where I was proposed to. Hopefully New York, where we're going this year for a tournament, will be pretty cool.
