BOLIVAR, Mo. - (Box Score) Alicia Johnson recorded 23 kills and 22 digs, while hitting .422 at the net, leading the Northwest Missouri State volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats have defeated SBU 10 straight times dating back to Oct. 3, 2003.
Northwest won games one and two 30-27 and 30-22, but just fell short in game three losing 30-27. Northwest closed out SBU's possible comeback in game four dominating 30-18. As a team, the Bearcats hit .245, including .353 in game one and .311 in game four.
The Bearcats move to 16-13 overall and 5-5 in MIAA play, while the Lady Bearcats fall to 8-19 and 2-9 in the MIAA. Its the sixth straight loss for SBU.
Johnson's leading performance was complimented by Rachel Nisi, who also recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 17 digs. Paige Spangenberg totaled 23 digs, the seventh time this season she has eclipsed 20 digs, and Katie Swenson dished out 57 assists.
The magic number for the Bearcats is two after the victory to guarantee a spot in the MIAA Tournament. Any combination of Northwest wins and Missouri Western losses that add up to two will get Northwest in the MIAA tournament. The Bearcats will travel to No. 6 Truman on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
