
TOPEKA, Kan. – (W 3-0 vs. DBU) (W 3-0 vs. NU) Rachel Nisi made 16 kills against Dallas Baptist and five aces against Newman (Kan.) to lead the Bearcats to 3-0 sweeps of each team in the Washburn Fall Classic today.
The Bearcats defeated the Lady Patriots 30-26, 30-24, 30-24. Newman fell 30-20, 30-19, 30-17.
Northwest improves to 14-11, riding a three-match winning streak. The streak is the longest since Oct. 13-14, 2006.
A late 8-1 rally in game two allowed the Bearcats to go from trailing 21-20 to leading 28-22, with half the points coming from a pair of kills and a pair of blocks. Northwest outhit Dallas Baptist .361 to .091 in the second stanza.
Nisi was the lone Bearcat in double-digits against Dallas Baptist, hitting .333 from 16 kills and five errors off of 33 attempts. Paige Spangenberg notched 16 digs, the most for her in a three-game match since Sept. 15.
Sara Falcone tied her career-high six blocks for the fourth time this season, pushing the Bearcats to a season-high 13 team blocks.
Against Newman, the Bearcats used a 10-0 run off the serving of Nisi to take a 19-6 advantage in game one. Nisi recorded two aces in that run and ended the match with a career-high five aces.
A similar 10-1 run in game two opened another 19-6 margin for the Bearcats, who ended the game with a .314 hitting percentage on 17 kills.
Northwest hit .459 in game three, led at the net by Iesha Haskins’ career-high seven kills. Haskins ended the match hitting .889 on eight kills off nine attempts.
Falcone led all players with 13 kills, her highest mark in a three-game match since Sept. 14. Alicia Johnson notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Katie Swenson contributed 43 assists, her highest tally for a three-game outing since Sept. 12.
The Bearcats return to MIAA action tomorrow, traveling to Fort Hays State for a 6 p.m. match.
