Bearcat Volleyball Hosts Missouri Southern Tonight at 7 p.m.
MARYVILLE - (Match Notes) Northwest Missouri State volleyball plays in the friendly confines of Bearcat Arena tonight, hosting Missouri Southern for a MIAA match beginning at 7 p.m.
The Bearcats are 2-1 against nationally-recognized opponents in the past three home matches, upsetting then-No. 18 Nebraska-Omaha on Sept. 19 and South Dakota on Sept. 27, who was receiving votes in the national poll at the time.
Northwest is 11-11 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. The Bearcats have taken three of the last four matches against Missouri Southern when playing at home.
Alicia Johnson continues to lead the MIAA in aces per game, averaging 0.64. She has also notched 17 straight matches with double-digit kills, a school record and the most since Jill Quast had a 14-match streak in 1997.
Paige Spangenberg is on pace to set the school season record for digs per game, averaging 4.55 this season. She needs 36 digs to qualify for the record. Katie Swenson reached the minimum 900 assists to qualify her for season records, as her average of 12.11 per game is fourth in school records.
The Lions are 10-10 overall with a 1-6 record in the MIAA. They are currently on a three-match losing streak and have dropped seven of the last eight. Sarah Hoffmeister leads Missouri Southern with 272 kills and 312 digs. Head coach Chris Willis is in his fourth season with the Lions after guiding them to the NCAA South Central Regional last year.
